We have all heard of The Great Resignation; heading into 2022 it is predicted that 40% of professionals are considering leaving their jobs in the first half of the year! Nearly 1 in 3 Black professionals (30%) surveyed are thinking about leaving their current job, with the top reason being lack of growth or advancement opportunities (45%).
2021 made us reflect on the question “what is life?” and the realization that as Black Professionals we are tired of just surviving everyday at work. 2022 is our year to THRIVE! Our moment in the movement to hold companies accountable through their actions which show up in the equitable opportunities they provide.
A career is a marathon, not a sprint. While major career objectives may seem difficult or even impossible to achieve, they can appear much more manageable through the use of a career plan. The goal is to ensure with each opportunity the next is better than the last. With the new world of work in mind, how will you take advantage of this moment to excel in your career? This is why career planning is critical.
Many of us are first generation, to just the mental health burden of the last 1.5+ years there has been an awakening I’ve seen in my friends who are leaving jobs to rethink what they want from an employer/company culture in order to pursue work environments that see them and help them thrive.
For those reading this, I don’t know what career moment you are in, but I hope you still create space to reflect. Then make sure to share those reflections with your close friends and family to help hold you accountable.
